Five reasons you need a mattress topper

The addition of a luxury mattress topper to a bed can be literally life-changing for some people. Sounds dramatic? Perhaps, but don’t forget, your energy levels, daytime activities and even the ability to achieve everything you want in a day boils down to whether you have had a good night’s sleep or not.

Think of a mattress topper as the icing on the cake, a way to turn an average bed into a luxurious bed; one which you’ll be desperate to climb into in an evening and one which will help you get a great night’s sleep every night. A mattress topper not only extends the life of your mattress but also adds a wealth of extra comfort.

They’ll Make Your Bed Even More Comfortable

Even if you already feel you have the most comfortable bed in the world, who doesn’t want added comfort?

A mattress topper is a perfect way to enhance your bed and mattress. So, whether you opt for our Hypoallergenic topper or the Wool topper for the ultimate luxury, one thing for sure is that you won’t regret it.

They Provide Support and Protection

A topper serves as an extra layer of protection. In the same way as a single mattress protector works as an additional layer to keep fluids away from your guest bed, or cotton pillow protectors at as a physical barrier against spills, a topper does a similar job.

Let’s face it; mattresses aren’t cheap, and you’ll want yours to last as long as possible, despite it being suggested that they should really be replaced far more regularly. If you’ve just bought a new mattress, you can extend its life even further by protecting it from spills and the like from day one. Of course, you could achieve the same with a mattress protector, however, they won’t add the same comfort a topper will so to us, it’s a no-brainer!

Pain Relief for Those With Back & Neck Problems

If you suffer from back or neck problems, investing in a topper could well be one of the best decisions you make. Memory foam offers a great level of support and can help to correct your sleep posture. If you’ve ever suffered from back or neck pain, you’ll know how unpleasant it is and any changes that can be made to help reduce it are usually welcomed!

Your Partner’s Sleep Won’t Disturb You

Does your partner wake you up each night by tossing and turning? Do their sleep movements prevent you from getting the great night’s sleep you deserve? If so, investing in a mattress topper could well be a wise move. The topper will absorb movement, ensuring you’re not disturbed each night.

Is Exercising in the Morning Good for You?

Waking up in the morning when you’re tired is no fun. And you’re not alone if you’ve been left wondering how to shake off the feeling of being permanently exhausted. (Is post lockdown exhaustion a thing?)

So, what’s the secret, we hear you ask? Apparently, we need to get moving. Exercising in the morning can help you to feel more energised throughout the day and you’re more likely to get a good night’s kip, too.

Don’t worry if you’re not the morning type, though. We’ve got some easy peasy energy boosters right here, tired and tested (no Sleepeezee employees we’re hurt during this experiment).

Tried and Tested Energy Boosters.

  1. Get Stretchy

A morning stretch is a great way to get your body going.

Since we spend so much time sitting down, it’s important to stretch out each part of the spine, starting with knee hugs. Do this by laying on your back, with your head relaxed, and bring your knees to the chest. Hold them for about 5 seconds and do 5 reps on each leg (or together, if you like).

For seated twists, sit on a chair with your hips and knees facing forward. Twist your body to one side for 5 seconds, and then back to the middle. Repeat this for 5 reps on each side.

To stretch out your neck, gently bring your ear down to touch your shoulder. Do this 5 times on each side, coming slowly back to the middle between each stretch.

Now tell us that doesn’t feel good!

  1. Work Your Core

A strong core (those muscles around your tummy) is key for good posture. And one exercise that’s great for strengthening the core is the dreaded plank. (Don’t hate us!)

Hear us out, though. It’s got loads of benefits. Not only is it one of the most effective core exercises you can do, but it can also be done anytime and anywhere.

To start planking, get into a press-up type of position with your elbows on the ground underneath your shoulders. Make sure your back is flat and your head and neck are level. As you start the plank, drive your elbows into the floor and squeeze your core muscles. Hold this position for 30, 60 or 90 seconds. (The longest minute in the world)

  1. Go For a Morning Run

Runs aren’t for everyone, but we dare you to give one a go. Fresh air, vitamin D, what’s not to love? In fact, running is proven to help you get better zzz’s so it’s win-win if you ask us. Even a few minutes could leave you feeling pumped for the day and sleeping like a baby come night-time. Try out our playlist Get Moving for a bit of listening inspiration!

Netflix & Spill: We Rank the Best Snacks to Eat in Bed

Is there anything better than binging on Netflix in bed, whilst enjoying your favourite snacks on the weekend or in the evening? It’s the perfect way to decompress, sitting snug under your duvet as you indulge in delicious treats…

But it’s time to spill the tea, we’ve taken one for the team and conducted a “highly scientific” experiment (we promise, we created a spreadsheet and everything) to rank popular snacks based on their popularity, how messy they are and where they rank on the food coma induce scale (yes, it’s a thing).

Popcorn

Starting with the movie favourite, popcorn didn’t feature as high as we’d hoped! This may be a movie-going experience snack only as it only scored a 4 / 10 on the popularity scale. However, no naps were taken when eating this snack. #JusticeForPopcorn

  • Popularity – 4 / 10
  • Messiness – 2 / 10
  • Food Coma Scale – 2 / 10

Crisps

Crisps caused some controversy here at Sleepeezee as a full-blown argument ensued on the best crisps out there. (FYI it’s Pringles, we’ll hear no more arguments) But they held their own in popularity and ranked pretty low on the food coma scale.

  • Popularity – 6 / 10
  • Messiness – 3 / 10
  • Food Coma Scale – 2 / 10

Chocolate

Now you can’t go wrong with chocolate, there’s something for everyone and who doesn’t want to eat a giant bar of Cadburys chocolate on a Saturday night? This ranked pretty high on our food coma scale, but we’d say it was worth it!

  • Popularity – 7 / 10
  • Messiness – 4 / 10
  • Food Coma Scale – 6 / 10

YumNuts

Now, this was a dark horse, we went on the hunt for Colin the caterpillar after the controversy that has ensued lately and ended up walking away with the Yum Yum, Donut hybrid. Safe to say we are completely sold and this ended up being one of our favourites.

  • Popularity – 8 / 10
  • Messiness – 7 / 10
  • Food Coma Scale – 7 / 10

Pizza

Pizza, the ultimate movie night in choice. Of course, this was a popular choice (although there were some monsters who said they didn’t like pizza) and ranked highest on the food coma scale.

  • Popularity – 6 / 10
  • Messiness – 6 / 10
  • Food Coma Scale – 8 / 10

Tea and Biscuits

A strong favourite amongst our panel, the classic tea and biscuits was our most popular snack however as I’m sure we all know was decidedly messy!

  • Popularity – 9/ 10
  • Messiness – 8 / 10
  • Food Coma Scale – 1 / 10

Tea & Toast

Following tea and biscuits is tea and toast! Another classic British snack and amongst our favourite’s this ranked high on our popularity scale. In fact, it scored 8 / 10 on the popularity scale and the good news is that you are unlikely to fall into a food coma from this tasty snack!

  • Popularity – 8 / 10
  • Messiness – 5 / 10
  • Food Coma Scale – 3 / 10

So, there you have it, what’s your favourite snack? Let us know over on our social channels!

10 Calming Bedroom Ideas to help Reduce Stress

Our bedroom is where we spend our time regenerating, resetting and refreshing (really all of the positive “re-words”). But after the last year, we have spent a hell of a lot of time indoors and our bedrooms may feel less and less like a special sanctuary.

Indeed, feelings of claustrophobia and restlessness are likely at an all-time high. But there are definitely little ways to bring the magic back to our bedrooms and turn it back into a soothing sleep sanctuary.

Freshen Up the Walls

Soft colour schemes, most often in cool shades of neutral, green, blue, or lavender shades are perfect for creating a zen atmosphere!

Turn the lights down

Switch off the ‘big’ light. Buy a bedside lamp and get a low-watt, energy-saving bulb for it. Scatter some LED tea lights around. Your room will feel softer and more calming.

Tidy up

Mess causes stress by making you feel guilty, claustrophobic, and visually overwhelmed. If your room is looking a little messy, tidying up will help you relax (even if you might not feel like it). You know what they say tidy room, tidy mind.

Ditch the Devices

We get it, Tik Tok is your life (it’s ours too I mean who hasn’t fallen into a 3hr Tik Tok hole…. )But we’re here to tell you that too much screen time can disrupt your sleep (cries). Cut back on the amount of time you spend on your phone and you sleep will thank you for it!

Light Your Favourite Candles

Candles are great for stressful times because they can remind us of our favourite places and memories. Lighting one you love whilst winding down can be very soothing and helps our mind to unwind. Just don’t forget to blow it out!

Make Your Bed

A small thing but making your bed can really help you begin your day and also feel more relaxed and fresh when you go to bed at the end of the evening. Because if nothing else, you’ll have accomplished at least one thing each day!

Start That Book

One of the oldest and fastest-acting ways to escape the pressures of the day is reading a good book. Just six minutes of a good book can lower your stress levels significantly. The kids keep talking about Six of Crows, so we are trusting them and adding it to our list!

Listen to music

Play something that triggers a happy memory, something to help you sleep, or just something relaxing. Your heart rate will fall, and so will your stress hormone levels! Luckily for you, we’ve created a playlist for every scenario – discover our Sleepeezee Spotify.

Wrap Yourself in Something Soft

That fluffy blanket you wanted, buy it (shopping spree granted). Fluffy blankets and other soft comforts help you focus on physical comforts and bring you outside of your head. This can make such a difference in your mindset and mood.

Leave The Rest To Us

Most importantly make sure your mattress is up to the job. If it’s not supporting, you properly or is just uncomfortable you are going to have a terrible night’s sleep regardless of how much you have invested into your bedroom. Shop our range now over on our website.

How to Create the Perfect Hotel Sleeping Environment

Creating the perfect sleeping environment with your hotel mattress has never been easier thanks to a few top tips from our very own colleague Andrew Thorpe (‎Divisional Contracts & Export Director). Andrew recently spoke to Luxury BnB magazine to find out how you can create the perfect sleeping environment for hotel guests to obtain the best night’s sleep.

Top Tips for creating the perfect sleeping environment for your guests

Blackout Curtains

Make sure it can really be ‘lights out’. Installing blackout curtains is important to ensure guests can enjoy undisturbed sleep.

Lighting

Use soft lighting and dimmer switches to allow guests to adjust the lighting before bedtime.

Temperature

Sleeping when hot is one of the leading causes of insomnia, so allowing guests to set the temperature between 16 and 20 degrees is ideal.

Quality Feel

Your body is in near-constant contact with the sheets. Providing high-quality, soft and breathable sheets will keep your guests cool whilst adding that luxury feel.

Sound

Eliminating noise is important. Guests are in unfamiliar surroundings so rooms need to be quiet and peaceful. Invest in double glazed windows and lined curtains to reduce noise levels.

Colour

Harness the power of colour to ensure the decor is calm and neutral so that guests aren’t distracted.

Smells

This is one of our most powerful senses, with links to memory, mood and energy levels. Some studies have shown that lavender lowers blood pressure and heart rate, which induces a calming effect. This is why some of our customers use lavender scents in their hotel rooms.

Invest in the Right Bed

Invest in the highest quality mattress you can afford, as well as mattress protectors which help to keep the bed as clean and hygienic as possible.

Leave the rest to us: BTS!

When it comes to mattress photoshoots – there’s no sleeping on the job! In fact, there’s a lot of setting up, there’s an interesting amount of throw pillows and there’s a large crew to make sure that every detail is looking perfect. Oh – and there’s Dame Jessica Ennis Hill as well!

To launch our Leave the Rest to Us campaign we’ve expanded our Jessica collection, with two brand new mattresses! Our Jessica Plush and Jessica Support are the latest additions to the Jessica range – and we can’t wait for you to try them out.

Our shoot took two days to accomplish. Day one was all about the Jessica, and day two was all about THE Jessica – not confusing at all(!) Our crew took over a huge house to ensure that we had plenty of space to remain socially distant from one another. It also meant we could easily maneuver the mattresses about.

Sleepeezee: Q&A with Dame Jessica Ennis Hill

We caught up with our brand ambassador Dame Jessica Ennis Hill between shots for a lightning round Q&A on all things sleep!

Hi Jess – thanks for catching up with us! What does Sleepeezee’s campaign ‘leave the rest to us’ mean to you?

I think we’re all so busy with life in general whether it’s work, it’s family life – there’s so much going on! So to trust in a really great quality mattress is a really important thing for all of us and for me in particular. And I think with Sleepeezee they have 100 years of experience, they have the knowledge and they can just provide you with as many options and take all the hassle out of trying to find that perfect mattress and it has such an impact on all those areas of your life.

What are your top three must haves when sleeping at a hotel?

My top three must haves when sleeping at a hotel would definitely be a great book, really good quality pyjamas and a really good skincare routine so that I’ve got all my products with me

What is it that you look for in a mattress?

For me a mattress has to have that medium firmness, so we’re all different but I like to have that kind of level of firmness in my mattress. The Jessica mattresses are great because they have the Staycool Gel™ and that helps regulate your body temperature through the night. Just having that element so you don’t feel like you’re sagging in a mattress – I like it to have some level of firmness so that it keeps its shape and I have that support through the night

Describe your dream bedroom.

I think my dream bedroom would be nice soft tones, lots and lots of pillows on the bed, a nice comfy throw and I think out of massive windows in front of my bed I’d like to see rolling hills and countryside – something that’s just really relaxing! Maybe a water fountain in the background or something to bring that level of calmness as well – hahaha. I think that’s my dream bedroom!

How important is sleep to you and your well being?

Sleep is so important and it has a massive impact on all areas of your life. So, for me, being able to have a good night’s sleep allows me to train the way I want to, to recover from my workouts that I do and also just give me the energy to do day-to-day jobs and work and be a great mum.
